Our saddle fitting courses are aimed at creating independent fitters who are competent to fit The Saddle Company products. All courses are taught by Master Saddler of 45 years and Managing Director of The Saddle Company David Johnson and his team in Walsall. David explains: "The courses aim to help people increase their knowledge and understanding of The Saddle Fitting process, to teach them how to adjust our saddles and ensure they fit."

The courses run on a monthly basis, with dates listed here and on the company Facebook page.  Candidates are asked to contact us to apply for a position on the course. Students are required to have a a level of knowledge and understanding of saddle fitting and horse anatomy in order to be accepted onto the courses. 

The courses are held at The Saddle company's workshop, which is situated in the centre of Walsall, and is within 5 minutes walk of the local train and bus stations. Car parking is also available nearby.

 Course Contents:

• Introduction to the Saddle Company and each other by David Johnson
• Learn the importance of the tree design in a saddle and the story behind The Saddle Company's own design, The Tree Tec Injection Moulded Tree 
• Discussion on the use of standard wooden trees used in the saddle trade
• A guide to the saddle manufacturing process which includes the basic components of the saddle
• How to take saddle measurements to accommodate the horse and rider
• Learn how to template and balance a saddle to the horse
• Discussion on the common faults that are usually associated with an ill fitting saddle
• LUNCH BREAK - provided by The Saddle Company
• How to adjust the Saddles using the re-templating machine which facilitates adjustment on-site with the horse and rider
• A discussion on how to re-flock and regulate Saddle Company Saddles
• Overview of the range of saddles that are on the market today including the full range The Saddle Company produce
• A tour of the workshop and summary of the day with Q&A's session
